Applause Community Theatre’s Fall One Act Festival
September 11–14 and 18–20, 2025
Three compelling one-act plays — Precious Scars by Brian Farrey-Latz, inspired by the true story of a gay Marine’s bravery and the cost of his unwanted outing; Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach by Paul Rudnick, a sharp, hilarious celebration of unapologetic identity; and The New Century by Paul Rudnick, a heartfelt comedy about connection and community. Together, they reflect our commitment to amplifying LGBTQ+ voices with humor, heart, and honesty.
This fall, Applause Community Theatre brings three unforgettable one-act plays to The Hive Collaborative, each celebrating LGBTQ+ voices with wit, compassion, and truth. From laugh-out-loud comedy to deeply moving drama, the evening offers something for everyone — and a chance to see stories that matter brought vividly to life.
Precious Scars by Brian Farrey-Latz
Director: Deb Schneider
Inspired by the true story of Oliver “Billy” Sipple, the gay Marine who saved President Gerald Ford’s life in 1975, this gripping drama explores the emotional aftermath of his unwanted outing by Harvey Milk and the media. It’s a powerful look at heroism, privacy, and the personal cost of becoming a public symbol.
Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach by Paul Rudnick
Director: Brian Farrey-Latz
A flamboyantly exiled New Yorker hosts an eccentric public-access TV show from his Palm Beach apartment, serving biting commentary, outrageous charm, and unapologetic style. This razor-sharp comedy revels in queer identity and the joy of living on your own terms.
The New Century by Paul Rudnick
Directors: Brian Farrey-Latz and Ben Farrey-Latz
Outrageous, big-hearted characters collide in a maternity ward, weaving comedy, compassion, and unexpected connections into a vibrant portrait of love, family, and community.
